To promote the awareness and study of Eurocodes among designers, accelerate the progress of Eurocode research, and meet the company's needs for expanding overseas markets, the Civil Engineering Institute invited Senior Engineer Liu Xiayu (China Registered Structural Engineer Class 1, Singapore Registered Structural Engineer) from CPG Consultants, Singapore, to conduct a 5-day Eurocode training for its structural designers from December 25 to 30, 2015.
Engineer Liu systematically introduced Eurocodes through topics such as an overview of Eurocodes, basis of Eurocode design, concrete structure design, steel structure design, frame modeling and classification, and an overview of EUROCODE 7 geotechnical design.
During the training, Engineer Liu explained the specific application of the codes with international engineering case studies he had worked on, and shared many design essentials and experiences from overseas projects. Designers from the Civil Engineering Institute also consulted and had in-depth exchanges with Engineer Liu regarding confusions and difficulties encountered in recent international projects and Eurocode research. This training enhanced everyone's understanding of Eurocodes, stimulated enthusiasm for learning and researching Eurocodes, and all trainees expressed that they benefited greatly.
